The single-screen theater was the last theater in the United States constructed in the Nuevo Art or Art Deco style, and much of the lavish décor from the 1930s, including copper ornaments and murals that still adorn the theater. The Washoe Theater first opened its doors in 1936 at the peak of the copper processing operations of the town. The state park offers plenty of information on the mining history of Anaconda and Butte. I went to a lot of punk and metal concerts there. That's why I was and still am a fan of Kiefernstraße. What makes the city special for you? Then as now, Düsseldorf's subculture is totally important to me. Must not be missing in a Düsseldorf record store: Kraftwerk. and of course Fehlfarben - for me one of the most important Düsseldorf bands - have influenced me a lot. In addition, bands like Mittagspause, Der Plan, S.Y.P.H. For this, I made my collection of rare recordings available. For example, last year there was an exhibition at the Kunsthalle dedicated to Conrad Schnitzler, artist and pioneer of electronic music, a Beuys student who made Krautrock respectable. And sometimes the music scene overlaps with the art scene. In this respect, Düsseldorf already plays a big role in my offer. However, most of the foreign customers ask for the well-known Düsseldorf bands like Kraftwerk and Die Toten Hosen. I have a neighbor here in the building who is very active as a video artist and musician. I'm mostly interested in experimental stuff - there are small underground clubs in the neighborhood that do events with invited guests. What role does Düsseldorf's tradition as a music city or the Düsseldorf music scene play for you? As someone who is interwoven with the music scene, I find the city super interesting, but it tends to move away from the classically occupied themes for me, such as electronic music. It's a good time for me right now, but at the same time I'm watching and waiting to see what happens when the hype dies down again. Now a new generation is being addressed that is building up a record collection on its own. Many of my customers rarely buy a CD, including myself. This trend is also being noticed in my community, but vinyl has always been trusted here. How does that affect you? The demand is huge at the moment. Vinyl is experiencing a renaissance right now. As if fallen out of time: Music cassettes. I travel a lot, search the internet and advertise online. You always have to go hunting, searching through collections and archives. If you wanted to specialize in that, you'd have enough to last a lifetime.Īnd where do you find your records? Finding them is the biggest challenge. In the online store, the selection is even bigger. But what you see here is not the whole assortment. Among them, of course, the big bands like Kraftwerk, Queen and Depeche Mode. What kind of music do your customers look for and find at your store? It ranges from classic rock to wave and pop to independent punk, death metal and free jazz. It's true that I also have ten to 15 percent new material that I absolutely stand behind, but "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd or "Monster Movie" by Can, those are classics. I am enthusiastic about records that have already played a certain role in history. Every day countless records and records appear and you have to wonder what significance they will have in the long run. Brightly polished plank flooring, industrial light fixtures and, most importantly, a well-stocked supply of the finest vinyl records distinguish the Record Store. Since then, we've been getting a lot of encouragement for it, although it's more important to me if it relates to the quality of the plates. During the pandemic, when we were closed, we made it nice - also to feel good ourselves. It's just important to me that people feel comfortable here. She is at home in the front rooms with her interior design store. In fact, I often get compliments because of my interior design, which is by my wife Alexa Müller. Although he didn't introduce himself to me as a journalist. Do you often get such enthusiastic feedback? Lustig, I remember him. He spoke of his favorite record store and even brought you a few discs to trade. Minty Vinyl got the highest praise from Olaf Deharde, photographer and travel podcaster from Hamburg. In this interview, the record pope, who is deeply rooted in the city's indie scene, reveals his Düsseldorf favorites. Before he opened Minty Vinyl, he and Andreas Ziegler ran the Slowboy gallery, where female artists exhibited their record cover art work, for example. Günter Herke, by the way, is not an unknown quantity in Düsseldorf. Initiates come to Flingern specifically, whether for a rare pressing of a Kraftwerk record or for an inspiring exchange with the collector and dealer. At Günter Herke's vintage record store, music lovers from many parts of Europe turn up. Minty Vinyl is an insider tip - and yet it is known far beyond the borders of Düsseldorf. "I love everything about this city." An interview with Günter Herke 11/18/2023 0 Comments Dotcom boomOn March 10, the index reached a record high of 5048. Having risen a record-breaking 88% in 1999, the Nasdaq composite index of technology companies rallied even higher in the first three months of 2000. With the benefit of hindsight, the merger presaged the crest of the stock market wave rather than the start of an avalanche of deals. The combination appeared to mark the coming of age of online upstarts as AOL had all the glitz and all the potential, but Time Warner was making all the money. However, there was little analysis of this sort as the year dawned with the US economy booming, fears of a millennium bug meltdown for the markets dispelled and the merger between America Online, the world's biggest internet services provider, and Time Warner, one of biggest traditional media companies, symbolising the unstoppable force of the "new paradigm". They probably took a closer look as the shares fell to just over $1 this month. Did anybody know or care what Engage Inc was actually involved in, let alone have any idea of its likely earnings potential when it was trading at $95 a share earlier this year. Shares in dot.com start-ups that were changing hands for hundreds of dollars each at the height of the speculative fever are now virtually worthless. Most dot.coms were involved in sectors where profits - assuming there were any - were destined to be squeezed by cut-throat competition. If the price-earnings ratio is much higher than normal, one of two things can happen - either the company will eventually justify its share price by making higher profits or its share price will come down to earth with a bump. Over the medium term, share prices are linked to profits with a fairly stable relationship between share prices and earnings, the price-earnings ratio. But there were also structural factors at play. The ratcheting up of interest rates by the Federal Reserve has not not helped, leading to weaker consumer demand and higher business costs. The iron laws of markets have now reasserted themselves. In vain did the Cassandras prophesy that it would all end in tears, that there were simply too many companies chasing too little revenue, and that for the stock market valuations of the dot.coms to be justified every person on earth would have to be surfing the net 24 hours a day with a mobile phone clamped to each ear. When the historians come to write the story of the dot.com bubble their epitaph will be the same as that penned after the madness ended in 17th century Holland, London in 1720 or Wall Street in 1929: it wasn't different this time. Yet what it did not have was the ability to rewrite the rules of economics. The mania for technology stocks in 2000 had all the ingredients for a roller-coaster ride from boom to bust - glamorous sounding products that investors knew little about, avarice, an economy firing on all cylinders, some dashing young entrepreneurs, a small army of cheerleaders in brokerage houses and in the media peddling the line that the rules of business had been rewritten. 11/18/2023 0 Comments Envelopes for 5 x 7 cardENVELOPES INCLUDED: Each pack comes with matching envelopes and includes 18 - 5-1/2 x 8-inch cards with a 3-1/4 x 5-3/4-inch window designed for a horizontal 4 x 6-inch photo Slide-in your photo and add your stamps and address and your greeting cards are ready for mailing.100% SATISFACTION: If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it for a refund or replacement within the return policy.SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM THE HEART: Spread peace, joy, and heartfelt blessings this year with our beautifully crafted set of 18 premium-quality folded photo holder cards featuring warm holiday greetings and vibrant seasonal borders.GREAT FOR FESTIVE OCCASIONS: Our celebratory Christmas card sets are great for keeping in contact with friends and loved ones of all ages, sharing the holiday spirit at family parties, and adding delightful details to winter festivities.BRIGHT, COLORFUL DESIGNS: Add a personal touch to the holidays with this festive design featuring a cheery holly pattern with red foil accents on a white background and a classic holiday greeting that reads: Hope this holiday brings joy and happiness to you and those you love.Iconikal Christmas Photo Frame Greeting Cards with Envelopes, Red Buffalo Plaid, 15-Count Iconikal Christmas Photo Frame Greeting Cards with Envelopes, Red Truck, 15-CountĬhristmas Photo Frame Greetings Cards with White Envelopes 72 Count Photo Sleeve Christmas Cards. 11/17/2023 0 Comments Coolest bagpipe player on earthAnd that's basically my idea behind that is, um, we're not a pipe band, we're a punk band. So I've been putting music together for that. I have a side project I created called sworn to be wild. Peter Hummel: I, I am working on stuff like, uh, just putting music together. So I just thought I was tired and I was breathing hard and everything I was doing until I got home and sprayed it with soapy water noticed I had holes like little tiny pin holes everywhere. And I, and then strangely enough, I had a hole in my pipe bag that I didn't know existed. Um, and then I played with Fergus all around the park all weekend long. It's a new pipe band that, uh, like, I, I won't say I helped start, but I was in the initial, let's bring these guys together. Some of us like last year was a busy one for me because I did solos. So on if you're tired, like when we do the Highland games, but the entire Fergus pipe band, we are on all weekend long, we're constantly playing. So as I was starting to flatten in the drones, I had to blow a little harder to sharpen everything up a bit, instead of me stopping halfway through and tuning. Like we were the other night down below, it started to cool off. Peter Hummel: And no answer, mainly because you've got to figure out after you're all tuned up. Like, I'll do something out on the patio and I'll play a few tunes just for them because they deserve it. But you know, at the end of the day, we're not doing Riverfest this year, but you know, we're going to do something for them. Like I can't, I can't, I could go on for hours about Spencer and John Ralston and all those guys. The folks at river Fest have done so much for me. And people were like, that was the coolest intro ever. We made it up just five minutes of just making noise. And I just kicked in with my bagpipes and joined in with them, everybody that heard it was like, that was amazing. So I walked out on stage and they were doing this Sonic assault on stage. And um, this one band, the wet secrets that the first year I played at river Fest, the lead guy comes up to me and he goes, do you want to jam with us on stage? I said, what? And he goes now. Um, we got to hang out with him for a bit and I could go on there's so many people at river Fest that I've met. They signed my record and you know, uh, at Dallas green, my, my it's, my wife's favorite singer. That's amazing at home, right? It is home it's yeah. And here I've been for the last 17 years. So I went for an interview at the upper grand district school board and got the job. And, and then I met my wife, uh, Sandy, and we were dating, she's a teacher and part of my certification, I, I, I am a educational assistant. I worked for them, uh, running group homes and stuff like that, or I shouldn't say running, but you know, assisting the folks that live in there. Stayed with community living wealth for quite like maybe 10 years of my life. And I ended up getting a job with community living the next day and wow. Uh, can you start in September? So I moved to Guelph and then they said, Oh yeah, we've, we've put a halt on all September hires. I did the interview and they said, great. Like I had to see there's a whole other story behind that, but let's just say, um, you know, so I ended up going to Sunbeam residential development center for an interview. I was looking for a job to get out of Niagara because I'd made a pact with myself that I would leave Niagara. I was taking educational resources and special needs. I hadn't been playing at that moment, but I was always kind of curious, like, how are they doing this? Some of the origins came You know, they they've all got a Piper in there and just, you know, being lucky enough that I saw these bands early, before they were really big, they used to sit and chat with me and tell me, Oh, well, you know, you gotta get this, you gotta get that. So I started basing a lot of stuff around that Canadian punk bands, like the real McKenzies and stuff like that. Uh, I, you know, to be honest with you, uh, I grew up in the punk scene and I remember, you know, as a, as a kid seeing the Dropkick Murphys with a bag Piper and I was like, that is the most incredible thing I've ever seen in my life. I've always been interested in Highland games, bagpipe music, even from a little kid. It's kinda been like, uh, one of those activities, you know, I I've always been interested in, in the Scottish culture. Try the 50-inch A518CV-U. The version of Android TV used by Sceptre provides access to a host of streaming services including Netflix, Apple TV, Hulu, Disney+, Showtime, YouTubeTV, Starz, FX Now and CNN Go. It runs Google's Android TV operating system and features Google Assistant voice controls, so you can boss it around from the comfort of your couch. Want a big screen for the big game? You can pick up the 65-inch Sceptre A658CV-U (below) for a jaw-dropping $418 at Walmart. If that appeals to you then it's just a matter of picking a screen size to fit your budget. So why pay extra for a smart TV? They're a great way to watch movies, TV shows and live sports such as NFL without subscribing to cable or a satellite provider such as DirecTV. Sceptre was late to market with its smart TVs but it's now caught up with the big-name brands. While we've not reviewed either of these sets, we'd feel confident that you'd be more likely to get a better picture performance from both Hisense and TCL than Sceptre at a given price too. For less than the price of the media streamer that you'd have to add to the Sceptre above to make it smart, you get the benefits of the brilliant Roku platform with its full complement of apps and services. If the price of the Sceptre U515CV-U remains the same, then we'd encourage you to take a look at the 50-inch Hisense 50R6E3 and TCL 50S431 Roku TVs instead. Walmart's better 50-inch 4K UHD TV options When viewed through that lens, it's easy to see why the U515CV is such a popular model. It's clear Sceptre doesn't aim to provide the best TV or the most immersive home theater experience – it aims to provide the best value for money. What can't be rectified is the lack of HDR support, which means you won't be able to view content in high-quality HDR. Of course, the lack of smarts is easily rectified by plugging in a cheap media streamer such as the Amazon Fire TV 4K or Google Chromecast. Yes, you can connect your smartphone or tablet to the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) port, but it's not as slick as having the apps on the set itself. You'll need to accept a couple of compromises. It also comes with a remote control and 2x10W built-in speakers but you could always add a soundbar later. It's an LED panel with a standard 60Hz refresh rate and three HDMI ports, including an HDMI 2.0 port for 4K video streaming. It's often billed as "the cheapest 50-inch 4K UHD TV" on the market and it gets you a 4K UHD picture for just $199. The Sceptre U515CV is a big hit with Walmart customers. Put simply, stick with what Sceptre does best – budget TVs around the $300 mark – and you won't go far wrong. If performance is a priority, we'd recommend you keep your powder dry and pick up a big-name brand. Sceptre TVs mostly use LED panels, so don't expect picture quality on a par with pricier OLED and QLED TVs from Sony, LG and Samsung. Head to $300 and over and you'll be in 50-inch 4K UHD TV country. Stretch your budget to around $250 and you'll get one of Sceptre's latest smart TVs, running Google's Android TV and offering built-in access to streaming services such as Netflix. The smaller models make great bedroom and kitchen TVs, and they're a hit with RV owners too. On a tight budget? Make a beeline for Sceptre's 720p and 1080p HD TVs. Skeptical? We don't blame you, but it's worth noting that Walmart customers rate Sceptre TVs at 4.1 out of 5 (based on over 25,000 reviews). So they're doing something right. You won't get a stunning contrast ratio, and you might not even get smart TV capabilities, but you will get great bang for your buck. Short answer: If you're looking for a nicely-priced TV, Sceptre is a great place to start. Browse the full Sceptre TV range at Walmart.Ready for some big-value, big screen entertainment? Whether you're searching for the best TV or just a great cheap TV deal, here's what you need to know about Sceptre TVs, including the best deals available right now. To keep sticker prices low, some Sceptre TVs do miss out on the latest features such as streaming apps and HDR video more on that shortly. They come in all specs and sizes from 19-inch to 75-inch. Sceptre makes in-car audio and even car batteries but is best-known for its budget-conscious LCD, LED, HD and 4K TVs. In fact, it might surprise you to know that the California-based consumer electronics brand has been around since 1984, the year that Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom opened in theaters across the nation. Almost everyone has heard of Samsung, Sony and LG, but fewer people have heard of Sceptre. |
